Listed buildings in Heidal
Heidal has Norway's highest density of listed houses and farmsteads, many of which are still inhabited.
Heidal has an impressive number of listed buildings, and 60% of the houses in the village date from before 1900. Along the sunny side of the valley, the old large farms are lined up in rows, and many people describe a feeling of entering an Asbjørnsen and Moe fairytale when they come up the valley for the first time. Many of the buildings are listed, and responsible owners, in collaboration with the National Heritage Board and local craftsmen, ensure that the buildings are preserved in the best possible way.
